Coloradans Say Bear Killed Chickens In Resort Town

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Two Colorado men say a marauding bear or bears stole a half-dozen birds from chicken coops outside their homes in Steamboat Springs.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today newspaper reported Wednesday that the raids happened late last month.

Peter Kenney says a bear broke into his coop on April 28, stole one chicken and injured another. He says the bear followed him onto the deck of his house and pressed against a window after Kenney retreated indoors.

Cedar Beauregard says a bear destroyed his coop a few days before that and ate five chickens. Beauregard says he thinks the same bear raided Kenney's coop.

The state Division of Wildlife says the damage at Kenney's home appeared to be from a bear. Officials say the other incident wasn't reported to the agency.
