KARVAL, Colo. (CBS4)- The entire town of Karval has been ordered to evacuate because of a fire that’s 6 to 8 miles wide. The fire is burning off Highway 71 and County Road M in Lincoln County, six miles west of Karval.

Karval is located about 78 miles east of Colorado Springs. The town has about 85 residents.

Lincoln County Sheriff said the fire is very large and estimated to be about 5,000 acres. The flames are moving east toward the town of Karval.

One bridge on County Road N has burned down and another bridge is on fire right now at County Road N and County Road 22. The fire has also destroyed a barn.

The fire started at about 4 p.m. There are eight fire departments agencies fighting the fire including Hugo, Crowley County, Limon, Tri-County, Ordway. Two more agencies have been called out. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says they are trying to get air support.

What was the outcome of this fire? The Denver news stations focus so much attention on the 1600 acre Franktown fire – – – but no follow up information has been reported on the Lincoln county fire. The Lincoln county fire burned two bridges and a barn. So how about filling us in on which roads can no longer be traveled. Just because it doesn’t affect Denver residents doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect YOUR VIEWERS!! Please remember that you cover the entire state of Colorado

Well put EC. As a volunteer fire fighter for Hugo , who responded to the fire in Karval, it irritates me that there is never any coverage east of I25. However when we recently lost a young police officer in the line of duty there was alot of interest and coverage on that story. You can contact the Lincoln County Road & Bridge Dept for more information about the closures and repairs for the bridges that were lost in the fire.
