Colorado Skier Visits Slip In January, February

DENVER (AP) -- A trade group says bitter cold over New Year's weekend, and rock slides and other highway troubles held skier visits down at Colorado resorts in January and February, but visits are still up for the season so far compared with last winter.

Colorado Ski Country USA said Friday that skier visits at its 22 member resorts were down by almost 1 percent for January and February from last year but up 3.4 percent for the season through February compared with last winter. Exact numbers weren't released. The results don't include four Colorado resorts owned by Vail Resorts Inc., which isn't part of the trade group.

The group says resorts around the country have been getting better-than-average snow, which might be keeping some skiers home instead of heading to Colorado.
