Lafayette Man Arrested 1 Week After Mother's Murder

LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Lafayette arrested Adam Raszynski in the death of his mother. Raszynski, 33, was arrested on suspicion of second degree murder in connection with the death of his mother last week.

Police responded to the home where they both lived, 2817 Whitetail Circle, after receiving several 911 calls on Feb. 23. When they arrived, Raszynski told officers that his mother, Rita Redford, 60, had shot him repeatedly before he fatally "stomped" her head.

"The son called, said that his mother had shot him and that she was dead at the bottom of the staircase in the home," said Lafayette Police Department spokesman Gene McCausey on Feb. 23.

"As the son exited the residence he indicated to the officer 'My mother shot me,'" said McCausey.

Raszynski was airlifted to St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver where he was at one point listed in critical condition.

Raszynski was released from the hospital just before 1:30 Thursday afternoon. He was escorted by Lafayette police to a waiting squad car and booked into the Boulder County Jail. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

Police said they had been called to the Lafayette home in the past for a similar disturbance.

Raszynski is expected to appear in court on Friday, March 4.
