4 Men Charged With Murders In Douglas County
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4)- Four men remain in jail Thursday night. They were formally charged with the murders of two people in Douglas County.
The bodies of Amara Wells, 39, and her brother-in-law
Robert Rafferty, 49, were discovered Wednesday, Feb. 23 by Wells' 6-year-old daughter. The girl ran to a neighbor's house for help and reported finding her mom and uncle on the floor, with blood.
Christopher Wells, 49, Josiah Sher, 26, Matthew Plake, 26, and Micah Woody, 29, were in court Thursday afternoon. All four waived the formal reading of charges, which means those charges are now sealed with the court documents.
According to Douglas County Jail, Wells is facing charges of first degree murder, criminal solicitation, conspiracy, violations of bond and protection order. Wells is the estranged ex-husband of Amara Wells.
Sher is facing first degree murder, assault, arson, burglary and conspiracy charges.
Woody is facing first degree murder, criminal solicitation and conspiracy charges.
Plake is facing a charge of first degree murder.
Sher, Woody and Plake were arrested over the weekend for the murders of Rafferty and Amara Wells. Christopher Wells has been in custody since the day before the murders on suspicion of violating a restraining order after he allegedly sent hundreds of text messages to his ex-wife.
Wells' attorney raised an issue in court on Thursday afternoon.
"All of the defendants are currently being housed here, there are only two visitation rooms available. We are fighting for opportunities to see our clients," said Wells' Attorney Tina Tussay.
A status hearing is set for March 18 for all four defendants.
Investigators said they have not ruled out the possibility others were involved in the murders.
