Cycle Yoga Combines Cardio With Stretching

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (CBS4)- A new class at the Louisville Rec Center has people burning calories and relaxing, all within one class. It's called Cycle Yoga.

Participants are pumping pedals and pushing into downward dog without having to register for more than one class.

"We've had really good feedback," said Cycle Yoga instructor Cathy Finleon.

Cycle Yoga is getting good buzz because it mixed hard cardio spinning with the calm stretching of yoga.

"Whenever we get to the yoga we're always so ready because we get to the end of it and you've just really worked out your body and you're ready for the breathing and the stretching," said Cycle Yoga participant Jenifer Farrell.

"People seem to like the combination of getting their cardio in first and then having the time to work on the flexibility and the strength afterwards," said Finleon.

About 6 months ago, Finleon wanted to gear up her yoga class. She added 35 minutes of cycling to a room for a converts.

"I think there were a lot of cardio people who were neglecting the flexibility piece. Now they've been introduced to yoga," said Finleon.

"Personally, if I were to do a spinning class, I probably wouldn't follow it up with a yoga class on my own," said Farrell.

At the end of 75 minutes, Farrell said she feels like a new person and that's why she keeps coming back for more.

"For me, what's really important is that exercise be fun, so people will keep coming back. That is something that I really emphasize," said Finleon.

Cycle Yoga is offered at the Louisville Rec Center on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m.

CBS4 will be in Louisville on Saturday, Feb. 12 for the monthly Fit 4 Colorado Community Walk. Join Jennifer Zeppelin at John Breaux Plaza at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited.
