Complaints Come Into Greeley Odor Hotline
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Engineers at Greeley's meatpacking plant are investigating possible sources of odor coming from the plant following an increase in calls to the city's odor hotline.
JBS USA spokesman Chandler Keys said Wednesday that the city hasn't contacted them but they're investigating anyway because of upgrades underway at the rendering plant.
The city started the odor hotline 15 years ago. There were 12 calls all last year but 16 calls have come in December and January alone.
Code enforcement manager Karen Scopel says four of the complaints were traced back to the JBS USA meatpacking plant.
So far, none of the recent complaints have violated the city's odor ordinance. The other complaints could not be traced.
