Berglund Leads Valor Christian To 4A Title

DENVER (AP) - Brock Berglund threw three touchdown passes and ran for another Saturday as Valor Christian routed Wheat Ridge 38-8 in the Class 4A state championship at Invesco Field.

Fifth-seeded Valor Christian (11-3), in Highlands Ranch, took a 31-0 lead with 1:44 to play in the third quarter when Berglund connected with Christian McCaffrey on a 68-yard scoring pass, his third of the day.

Berglund, who plans to attend Colorado next year, also had TD passes of 62 yards and 10 yards in the second quarter. He added a rushing touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, accounting for the final score.

The senior quarterback finished 12 of 16 for 280 yards, and he had 14 carries for 122 yards.

Wheat Ridge (12-2), the No. 3 seed, managed to score with 10:17 left in the game. Nick Ossello had a 1-yard scoring run, and Davion Amos-White added the 2-point conversion.
