Denver's art scene is getting plenty of attention and that's a great deal for art fans. With the influx of new talent and our own homegrown talent finally getting national recognition, Denver's art scene is literally spilling out onto the street. The city is covered in dozens and dozens of museum quality murals from artists who work their magic on a medium of brick and concrete. Not all art is created equal, however, so here's a few places to check out if you're in the mood for an artistic urban safari.
Whittier Alley Loop
30th and Race St.

One of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver, Whittier has a long history of notable craftsman and artists who have called the small neighborhood home. Integrated since the 1890s, the neighborhood is named after famed abolitionist poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Today, his legacy of unflinching artistry is celebrated in the Whittier Alley Loop, with a half mile of murals that were created to celebrate the neighborhood's rich tapestry of racial and artistic freedom. Located just two miles northeast of downtown between 28th Street and 30th Street, the Whittier Loop is always available to feed your need for excellent street art.

Centennial Chalk Art Festival
Centennial Center Park

As great as it is to see the finished product, watching a wondrous piece of art come to life can be truly awe-inspiring. If you've never seen an artist craft beauty from a simple set of materials, then keep your calendar open for the Centennial Chalk Art Festival. The event is increasingly popular — in 2015, the organization expanded to bi-annual events — because it draws some of the most talented chalk artists in the world to invent new designs for throngs of curious onlookers. The Centennial Chalk Art Festival is free and it includes live music and chalk art for the kids.

Cherry Creek Bike Path

For those Denverites looking for some beautiful scenery while out for a bike ride or a stroll, there's always Denver's 40-mile Cherry Creek Bike Path. Discover Denver's hidden art scene as you stroll along the tree-lined path that cuts through the heart of the city. If you're looking to walk or ride this trail with an eye towards absorbing some spectacular street art, then you'll want to start at the southern tip of Denver proper. From there you can take in the stunning murals that run along the path's concrete walls until the trail culminates at Denver's Confluence Park. It's definitely not to be missed.

Globeville
I-25 and I-70

Globeville is probably best known for being the neighborhood where I-25 meets I-70 (Denverites call that the Mousetrap!). However, in recent years the working class neighborhood has worked to reinvent itself as a home for blue collar artwork. The area is scattered with murals from up-and-coming local artists who have partnered with PlatteForum to spice up the surroundings. If the buzz from the local art scene is any indication, Globeville has succeeded with aplomb.

Urban Arts Fund

In Denver, it's nearly impossible to avoid jaw-dropping street art. The city has spent the last several years offering its walls up as a canvas for enterprising artists throughout the country. The primary engine of this revitalization has been the Urban Arts Fund, which has commissioned both graffiti artists and muralists to transform the city into a living, breathing work of art. Their impact can be seen throughout the city as the Fund works to capture the spirit of this vibrant city with updated works of art year after year. Just keep your eyes open and prepare to be amazed!
