Take your spooky Fido down to Elitch Gardens for its 14th Annual Frightfest Pet Parade. This event is one of the biggest Halloween activities for pet lovers. On Saturday, October 13, you simply need to check in at the Big Wheel Stage. Bring your pet in costume, bring yourself in costume, in fact – try to come up with a great pet/owner combination costume. However you decide to let your pet pal in on the Halloween action, just head out to show it off. There will be competitions for funniest, most original and best pet/owner combination costume, complete with prizes. In addition, 100 percent of the proceeds from the day will benefit the Dumb Friends League, so it is for a great cause as well. Even if you don’t have a pet to compete, this is one costume parade you don’t want to miss. Head out and experience the fun.

Even the local pet food stores are getting in on the Halloween action. Check out Chuck and Don’s Pet Food Outlet this October for some great Halloween fun with your pets in mind. On October 20, bring your dog in and show off his best trick. Of course, a good trick gets a great treat. Then, on October 27, head back and compete in a dog and cat pumpkin carving contest. Just bring in your already carved dog- or cat-themed pumpkin and be entered into a drawing. And of course, no Halloween would be complete without a costume party. Grab your great pet costume and head out on October 31 for the Halloween pet costume party. There will be plenty of photo opportunities and prizes for the best costumes.

Okay, everyone knows that on Halloween, the calories tend to add up. So why not take the whole family out to get a bit of exercise while still celebrating in costume? Check out the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver’s annual Scream Scram. This 5k event is held every year and it is perfect for the whole family – Fido included. Get the whole family into a theme costume and make sure to include the four-legged members, then hit the course for the full 5K or if you’re scared, take on the 100M Spooky Sneak just for the kids. Show off your pup’s costume on the Orange Carpet to get your shot at one of the great costume prizes. There will be prizes for Best Individual, Best Family, Best Group, Best Child and, of course, Best Pet. Everyone that registers gets a t-shirt, goody bag and race pictures. Once you and your whole family have crossed the finish line, it is off to the Trick-Or-Treat Street to get plenty of goodies for everyone. And the best part? Everything benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.
