St. Patrick’s Day is March 17, so the weekend before will be packed with lots of different activities, parades, concerts and more. It’s a wonderful way to ring in springtime in Colorado while celebrating the one day when everyone is Irish. So pull out all your favorite green gear, maybe even put on a little green face paint and start your holiday off with the huge annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade before heading out to the bars or any of these other wonderful places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as a family.

The biggest and best annual St. Patrick’s Day tradition in Denver is the 53rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year, Thomas J. Noel, also known as Dr. Colorado, will be the Grand Marshal and Maureen McGinty has been crowned the Queen Colleen for the parade. Check out all the floats, bands, entertainers and more as they march through Denver celebrating the holiday. Wear all your best green attire, and arrive early to get a good viewing spot along the parade route, which runs along Blake Street from 17th Street to 27th Street. If you’re bringing the kids, the best spot for families is the end of the parade route on Blake Street from 23rd to 27th Avenue. Or, if you are more interested in the dance performances and live music, then you’ll want to find a spot on Blake south of 20th Avenue.

If you love trap and bass music, then you’ll love this St. Patrick’s Day weekend music festival. This is the loudest and most booming way to enjoy the holiday, so if you love to rock out to some great trap and bass music artists, wear your best green attire and head out to the Fillmore. This event features Bro Safari, Slander, Dotcom, Vinnie, ATIK and Paws, and tickets are on sale now. Trapfest is also one of those rare music festivals that is open to the under-21 set, with teens ages 16 and older admitted, though there will be 21-and-up bars open at the venue as well. So hit the dance floor and get ready to party at Trapfest 2015.

Runnin’ of the Green

Kick off the holiday with a little fitness at the annual Runnin’ of the Green. There are several races to enjoy, including the 7K main event. The kids will love the two-mile Leprechaun leap run/walk, or you can all enjoy the larger 7K together. Even walkers are welcome for the races, there’s a separate start for anyone who doesn’t want to run. The Runnin’ of the Green has been one of the largest races of its kind for 27 years, and it’s brought hundreds of thousands of dollars for Volunteers of America. When the race is over, head over to Fado’s for live music, corned beef, Irish dancers, the Colorado Youth Pipe Band and Killian’s Beer. It’s a great way to enjoy the holiday together, as a family.

Nothing says St. Patrick’s Day more than traditional Irish stepdancing, and this is a great chance to catch the Heritage Irish Stepdancers doing what they do best. This show, titled “The Black Sheep,” features lots of fascinating legends of Ireland, with beautiful costumes, intricate rhythms and puppets, all brought to life on the large Broomfield Auditorium stage. The kids will love the different stories which include “The Last Dragon of Ireland,” “The Black Sheep” and “The Children of Lir,” and the three features stories will transport you all to a different time as you enjoy the energetic and rhythmic dancing of the Heritage Irish Stepdancers. This is the perfect family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day show that everyone will love.

Everyone in Denver knows that Fado is one of the biggest and best places to be on St. Patrick’s Day but you may not realize that this spot is totally family friendly during the day.
