Top Outdoor Fitness Classes In Denver

Denver residents are blessed to live in a place where they can enjoy being outdoors at least some part of all 12 months of the year. One of the top 10 healthiest places to live, Colorado offers a plethora of opportunities for you to get fit, have fun and soak up a little sun all at the same time.

At the top of the list a gut-busting bootcamp called It Burns Joe Fitness. Joe promises boot camp participants three hours of the most intense workout they have ever had and a warning that they will be walking funny for a few days after their session. It meets in several outdoor locations, the most popular and well attended of which is the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison. Joe Hendricks leads these free, killer sessions, and only asks for occasional donations to replace broken equipment. Team work and friendly competition are just a part of the experience. Joe has had as many as 200 people show up for these high-intensity, fat-burning, muscle-building classes at Red Rocks. Weeknight sessions are at the Club Form Fitness in downtown Denver.

Confluence Kayak can help you cross "learn to kayak" off your bucket list and help you get in shape at the same time. From April through October take classes at Chatfield State Park in Jefferson County. Full-day lake or river intro lessons start at $129 with private and small group sessions available. It offers additional skills classes year round at the pool at the Ritchie Center at Denver University that cover all aspects of kayaking with classes for everyone from first timers to serious experienced athletes. Anyone who's ever rowed before knows these classes are guaranteed to exhaust and exhilarate any athlete.

Kick off your shoes and join the sensation of Yoga Rocks the Park's fourth year all summer long at City Park and Alamo Placita in Denver. Yoga Rocks the Park combines not only the area's top yoga instructors but incorporates live music from Denver's top artists and traveling musicians. Check in starts at 9 a.m. music at 9:30 a.m. with Yoga instruction from 10 a.m. to noon. Take a look at past event videos here. There is also interactive option for kids ages 5 to 10. This fun option to teach your kids to get and stay active includes instruction on yoga postures as well as fun activities including face painting and hula hooping. After the yoga instruction the music continues and participants are invited to browse the fitness, organic food and drink vendors, and other alternative therapy exhibits.

The Parker Recreation Center in Parker offers multiple outdoor fitness events and classes throughout the year including outdoor zumbaYoga in the Park , the PlayCalleSoccer 3 v 3 Tournament, Partner Fit and Zumba Gold in the Park for ages 50 and older. Seniors are also invited to join the seniors walking club that meets from May through October at the Parker Recreation Center and walks the Cherry Creek Trail. The staff at the Parker Recreation Center also plans outdoor fun and fitness for the kids with day-camp programs including fun run 1K competitions along the Cherry Creek Trail and outdoor inline skating rink and soccer field events. The Kids Tryathon happens every September, making fitness fun in a non-competitive atmosphere in which everyone who trys is a winner. It combines swimming, biking and running in a fun annual event.

Scott Harwood, a personal trainer and ex-Marine, promises to get you in the best shape of your life at his year-round outdoor bootcamps at Washington and Cheesman parks. The bootcamp alternates between the two parks and moves indoors if the weather is too extreme to its location on Bannock Street in Denver. Classes include an hour of cardio and weight training. From triathlons to better golf games, Harwood promises improvement with more than 10 years of experience to back him up.
