Top Live Dance Performances Coming To Denver

Although people tend to picture the outdoors when they think of Denver, there is an abundance of cultural activity as well. Residents and visitors can choose from a wide variety of performances from live music to theater. Denver also has a vibrant dance scene, and each year, there are plenty of high caliber productions from which to choose. If you're a fan of all things dance, check out one of the following live dance performances.

One of the most popular ballet productions of all time makes its way to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House courtesy of the Colorado Ballet this fall. The Tchaikovsky classic tells a tale of heartbreak and deception, and it has been interpreted hundreds of times since its first performance in 1877 and is considered to be one of the all-time greats. The Colorado Ballet production will feature choreography that closely mirrors that of the original show. Ballet fans should definitely add this show to the "must see" list for 2016.

Join the Wonderbound Dance Company on September 27 for a preview of its upcoming fall shows with Teaser Episode #11. This dance company mixes traditional styles with innovative performance pieces for shows that are beautiful and thought provoking. Teaser Episode #11 will feature a sneak peak at the "A Gothic Folktale" show, which is a performance that captures all of the magic of the circus through dance. At the Teaser event, guests will be able to learn about the creative process behind the show, and they will be treated to a Q&A with members of the cast and crew. Through the end of the summer, the Denver Art Museum will host a trio of exhibits collectively titled "Dance!" It is comprised of the "Rhythm and Roots" exhibition, which explores the close knit relationship between dance and visual art, as well as a live installation called #dancelab. Developed with Wonderbound, the performance piece will invite museum patrons to interact and become part of the movement. "Dance!" will also feature an exhibition titled "Why We Dance," which highlights Native American artwork and showcases their cultural dance traditions. If you're a dancer or an admirer of dance as an art form, don't miss any of these exhibits.

As part of the Aerial Dance Festival, fans can attend this one-night only event, which showcases work by aerial dance artists. Along with the show, guests will also be treated to a Q&A with the dancers, and the festival itself is the perfect way to introduce yourself to the world of aerial dance. Along with this showcase event, the Aerial Dance Festival itself will feature workshops, demonstrations and other performances, Presented by Frequent Flyer Productions, this art form offers a striking blend of artistry and athleticism.

A mix of dance styles, acrobatics and much more make MOMIX a must see for dance fans. This show's theme is a tribute to the sights and sounds of the desert. An ode to the American southwest, MOMIX features a stunning multi-media spectacle that is entertaining on all levels. With exciting choreography blended with humor and a little bit of magic, this show is worth putting on your list. It plays for two nights at the Newman Center at the University of Denver, and tickets go on sale on July 18th.
