Top Bike Trails In Denver

Colorado is known for our outdoor climate and active population. We love to do things outside, and because of this, our trail system is one of the best in the nation. Denver is home to plenty of trails for both walking, running and biking. Whether you're looking to go for a nice leisurely stroll or a grueling ride across the city, there are plenty of trails to fit whatever you're looking for. Check out this list for some of the best bike trails in the Mile High City.
Clear Creek Bike Path

This trail is roughly 20 miles, and runs from the South Platte River all the way throughout downtown Golden. The path rises in elevation roughly 600 feet from East to West, so most riders prefer to start from the East so the return trip is not as grueling. The full path is long, however, there are plenty of different starting points depending on what type of ride you're looking for. Even if you're just looking for a leisurely stroll, the Golden area is beautiful, short and pretty flat in elevation, so it makes for an easy ride. The trip is worth the ride, so put this on you're summer bucket list and see why it's one of Denver's favorite bike paths.

Bear Creek Bike Trail

Another trail that can begin around the South Platte River, the Bear Creek Bike Trail connects with the South Platte River Trail near the Broken Tee Englewood Golf Course and goes towards the town of Morrison, ending at Bear Creek Lake Park. The trail is great because there are tons of connections, including the C-470 trail that wraps around the Western base of Green Mountain, and a ton of trails that run throughout South Denver. Not to mention the fact that Bear Creek Lake Park is a huge 2,600-acre open space with hiking, horseback riding, swimming, camping, and of course, biking.

High Line Canal Trail

The High Line Canal Trail can run up to 40 miles depending on where you decide to start. It runs all the way from Aurora, towards the Cherry Hills area, through South Denver, and down towards C-470 and the Chatfield Dam. It's an excellent trail, and meanders through many neighborhoods, parks and golf courses providing for some great scenery throughout your ride. Another plus to this trail is the amount of connecting routes that are available. You can hop onto tons of other routes that lead through Cherry Creek, along the South Platte, or on the Big Dry Creek Trail.

Big Dry Creek Trail

The Big Dry Creek Trail is an excellent trail that runs through the Standley Lake-Arvada-Westminster area, with connections to trails running through Broomfield and Thornton. It does cross multiple large streets, however, there are underpasses for each crossing. There are plenty of wide open spaces, and tons of beautiful city parks along the way. This is definitely one of the best trails in the North Metro area, so if you're looking for a nice, leisurely ride through some great Denver neighborhoods, check out the Big Dry Creek Trail.

The Greenway Trail

Another trail that runs along the South Platte River, the Greenway trail is 30 miles of paved path with connections to multiple parks, paths and recreation areas. The cool thing about this trail however are the historical markers along the way. Since much of Denver's early history took place near the South Platte, the trail is full of signs and markers with information about the early settlers, as well as the Native Americans that previously lived here.
