Shopping for the mister can be a trying time. Men will always tell you it’s harder to shop for women. But the guys usually want that precise tool made by a specific company for a specific job, or the over-the-top technological toy or outdoor adventure. Where can you begin? Below is a list of some of Denver’s most unique, as well as practical, ideas for gifts for him.

Bandimere Speedway (credit: CBS4)

Bandimere Speedway

3051 South Rooney Road
Morrison, CO 80465
(303) 697-6001

Do you have a man in your circle who has the need for speed? If so, take him to Denver’s home racetrack, Bandimere Speedway. About 30 minutes west of the city, atop a dusty hill in the mountain foothills of Morrison off C-470 and 285, lies 47,000 square feet of concrete and asphalt exhilaration. Between the months of April and October, you can get him tickets to event racing, from dragsters to snowmobiles. If he has that shiny street car or street bike that he’s been just dying to let loose, you can set him up with a day to race his own, all you need is proper protection equipment and a valid driver’s license! In the winter months, the track stays open for its partnering company, Action Karting, where you get the group of guys together to race go-carts, up to 50 mph!

Army Surplus

3524 S. Broadway
Englewood, CO 80113
(303) 789-1827

For over 50 years, Army Surplus has been serving needs for everything from camping and hunting to military and motorcycle gear. Locals know the Hampden location as if it were family, with the ever witty sales pitch poems that are advertised on the storefront, not to mention the eccentric staff. You’ll find camping, hunting, and fishing supplies, Carhart, Dickies and Levi’s wear, winter clothes for the whole family, and basic tees and pants at their extended clothing shop next door. He’s always wanted a thermal underwear onesy, you say? They’ve got it. He needs the perfect pocket knife? You can find that there too. And why not browse through their nostalgic military hats, belts and outfits. A one-stop shop for the outdoor and tool enthusiast, all at very good prices.

Rockmount Ranch Wear

1626 Wazee Street
Denver, CO 80202
(303) 629-7777

No matter all the arts, martini bars, and hipster neighborhoods, Denver is still a cow-town at heart. There’s probably at least one dude you know, family or friend, who still dresses up with a cowboy hat, or at least appreciates some fine leather. As ironic as it may seem, Rockmount Ranch Wear has had its home in the same spot in LoDo (Lower Downtown) with three native generations since 1946. The cultures of men who flock here are actually mixed as it is, where the infamous western pearl snap shirts are worn by countrymen and rockabillies alike. You’ll find plaid shirts, cowboy hats, western ties, buckled and tooled belts, leather coats, including southwest blankets and pillows. The prices can get high, but the quality of the Rockmount stamp and variety of gifts you’ll find there is worth the trip.

A-1 Scuba & Travel Center

1800 W. Oxford Ave.
Englewood, CO 80110
(303) 789-2450

Before he heads out for that beach destination trip, destined to try the scuba diving he’s always wanted to do in the open ocean, get him initiated with a scuba diving class right in our land-locked back door. About 20 minutes south of Denver, along Santa Fe Drive at Oxford, is A-1 Scuba and Travel Center. They offer a variety of diving and travel activities, but their scuba classes are definitely something different and fun to try out! You can choose between a one-hour scuba lesson, for a mere $25, at A-1’s onsite heated pool. Or make it closer to the real thing and have him swimming with the fish, at the Downtown Aquarium Under the Sea salt water Exhibit, for a two-hour lesson for $175. Either session simply requires a swim suit, towel, signed waiver form, and a minimum age of 10 years old.
