If you have been in a wedding recently and still have your bridesmaid’s dress, Halloween is the perfect time to recycle. Dresses with chiffon or tulle are perfect for fairy costumes. All you need to do is add a pair of wings, a wand and glitter and you have yourself a fairy costume. If the dress is long and you want to make it a little sexier, cut the bottom and add some fishnets. It’s Halloween, so nobody will care if the seam is frayed or uneven. The Wizard’s Chest has a wide assortment of costume accessories, including wings, at various price points. Many are between $10-$15, and with such a big selection, you can color coordinate with your dress.

It carries a lot of different fashion-forward brands, but you’ll still have to do some sifting. With a little patience, you should be able to find a cute skirt for under $10 and you may just be able to wear it again.

Common Threads
2707 Spruce St.
Boulder, CO 80304
(303) 449-5431

There is a reason why the flapper is a Halloween staple. Flappers harken back to the romantic, carefree vibe of the Roaring 20s. In their day, these girls were sexy and always down to have some fun. The look is gaining popularity with shows like “Boardwalk Empire” and a big-screen adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” on the way. Channel your inner 1920’s bad girl with a brightly colored shift dress adorned in fringe. Top the look with a feathered head piece and round it out with sultry, smoky makeup. The flapper is a sexy and elegant costume that is perfect for a more upscale party. Common Threads in Boulder is well known for its annual Costume Swap. If you have a gently used costume from a previous Halloween, bring it to the store and trade it for another one. Or peruse the costume selection for a flapper dress at an affordable price.
