'Once' Touches Your Heart ... Quietly

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Center Attractions wraps up its 2013/2014 season in May with "once" -- a big show that isn't big at all.

That's according to Critic at Large Greg Moody, who says the show relates to audiences in a wonderful way.

"We become enamored, it seems, of Broadway mega-musicals that bend the ear and poke the eye, with colorful sets and a parade of showstoppers but what's wonderful here is and to find a musical that touches your heart .. quietly," Moody said.

Once recently won a Tony Award for Best Musical, but Moody says it's so unassuming you might not realize how special it is.

The plot is based on a 2006 movie. It's the story of a Dublin street musician seemingly at the end of his career rope and the Czech girl he meets who encourages him to believe in his music and himself.

Moody said audiences will leave the theater loving the romantic story and wanting more.

"Once" runs May 6 through May 18 at the Buell Theatre. Stuart Ward plays the role of "Guy" and Dani de Waal plays the part of "Girl."
