Father of Three Among Those Killed Following Shooting, Head-On Crash In Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - A suspected shooting and subsequent crash ended with three people dying on Friday night in Denver. Police say the situation started in Denver near 39th Avenue and Peoria Street at around 6 p.m.

Investigators say two sedans were traveling south on Peoria, south of Interstate 70. At some point, shots were fired from one of the sedans. Both vehicles continued south, speeding on an overpass over train tracks, police say.

That's when one of the sedans collided with a pickup truck. The second sedan drove away.

Officers later determined two people inside the sedan were possibly shot. That driver veered into oncoming traffic when they hit the truck. The two people in the sedan died at the scene, police say.

Police have confirmed an adult male and two juveniles were the deceased victims. Family of one victim tells CBS4 the two juveniles were 13 years old.

"They're my babies," said Brazil Hoyle, who came to the scene with balloons Saturday afternoon.

The third victim was identified by family members as Uriel Reyes Medina. They say he was a father of three and was driving the pickup truck.

Reyes Medina was taken to the hospital where he died.

"He wasn't doing nothing wrong, he was coming home to have dinner with his family," said Reyes' wife Misty Reyes. "Due to somebody's negligence, my kids don't have a father, I don't have a husband. I have to figure out things on my own, and there's nobody to even blame at this point."

On Saturday, friends, family, and loved ones gathered at a family home to pray remember Reyes. He is described as a dedicated husband and proud father of three girls, who recently combined his love of family and community by getting involved with the No 'Mo' Violence Cultural Dance Group, a non-profit.

"Coincidentally this is due to violence," Reyes said. "It's something he felt strongly against and just wanted to make sure his girls had opportunities to feel welcome and involved."

Anyone who witnessed any part of this scene is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

"He just wanted to better our family and he just wanted to do everything in his possibility to do that and now he has no chance."
