Deputies Called To Rescue People After Mudslides Force Road Closures Near Telluride

SAN MIGUIEL COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Heavy rain sent a wave of mud down part of Highway 145 in San Miguel County on Tuesday afternoon. The sheriff's office says mudslides on the eastern part of the county closed numerous roads including the highway east of Telluride at East Colorado Avenue.

Black Bear Pass, sheriff's officials say, is closed between San Juan and San Miguel counties. Bridal Veil and Tomboy Roads are also closed.

At around 6 p.m., deputies said they were working to rescue a distressed hiker on Imogene Pass and people in a car on Black Bear Pass.

"On top of everything, we have people driving on dangerous passes w/ little or no experience, & ill-equipped for weather-related emergencies," the sheriff's office stated on social media.

The sheriff's office says some residents are choosing to evacuate.
