DENVER (CBS4) — A new Denver public high school in Montbello has a new name. It is now called the Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy — after the Denver native and DPS graduate. Smith is Black, a billionaire investor, inventor and philanthropist.
Smith famously paid off $34 million of college debt for Morehouse College students last year.
On Thursday, school leaders said they were hoping the name would encourage students to be innovators and change-makers.
It will open next August.
