Forest Rangers Begin Slash Burning In Southern Colorado
DURANGO, Colo. (CBS4) - Forest Rangers are taking steps to prevent wildfires in the San Juan Mountains near Durango. They're burning off brush and slash piles in the Turkey Springs Area.
They've burned 115 acres so far. The piles were made after hand thinning work was done during the summer.
The operations could continue through April.
Crews burn only when smoke permit conditions are met. Public access to the forest should not be affected.
