Firefighters found a man dead inside the building Wednesday night at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Sprinklers helped to contain the fire to one unit, according to Louisville Fire Department Battalion Chief Diane Schroeder.

"The sprinkler system did exactly what they were supposed to do and that's to contain the fire, and the alarm system did what it was supposed to do and that's to notify the residents. They started to evacuate, so everything did exactly what we expect to happen," Schroeder said.

So far, the victim's identity hasn't been released.

"All of us are deeply saddened and offer our condolences to the victim's family and the residents of Lydia Morgan," said Boulder County Housing Authority Deputy Director Norrie Boyd. "We will work closely with our community members and will be supporting the family and residents over the coming days and weeks in any way we can."

The Lydia Morgan building consists of 30 apartments. All other residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
