Colorado House GOP Opposes Tinkering With Next-Year Refunds

DENVER (AP) — Minority Republicans in Colorado's House are opposing any moves by Democrats to let the state keep anticipated tax refunds next year. The House GOP Caucus urged Democratic Gov. Jared Polis in a Wednesday letter to avoid calling a special session to consider retaining excess revenue derived from the current fiscal year.

That excess revenue could total at least $300 million.

The Denver Post reports that House Speaker KC Becker confirms lawmakers are considering ways to keep at least some of that revenue.

That would require the governor convening a special session.

This spring, the Democrat-led Legislature placed a question on the November ballot asking voters if the state can keep excess revenue in future years that would otherwise be refunded under the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights.
