Hotel Fires Employees Who Posted 'No Longer Serving Military' Sign

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) -- Two employees of the DoubleTree by Hilton Colorado Springs were fired the day after they stopped serving alcohol to a group of veterans and their families celebrating their return from deployment. The employees made a sign stating "No longer serving military personnel and their guest(s)" and posted it at the hotel bar.

Both employees were dismissed the next day, according to a March 15 Facebook post from the hotel.

"These men and women where being honored for serving our county (sic)", Justin Vames wrote the next day on his own Facebook account. "There was no reason to treat us this way!"

Vames stated that 600 people paid $50 apiece to attend, but paid expensive prices for drinks and had food taken from their tables if they went to the restroom.

Then the sign went up.

"They came in and shut down our traditions. Treated us like crap!" he wrote.

Hotel management agreed.

In an updated response, General Manager Daniel Kammerer wrote, "Two Supervisor-level employees, who have since been terminated, made poor decisions including displaying a sign that they created, which we find very offensive. Their actions were in no way associated with the values of the hotel management. Their actions do not reflect our principles or beliefs, and this is not how we train our employees. We deeply regret any offense to the service members and their guests, and have implemented a retraining of our employees to ensure this does not happen again.

"We are honored and proud to support our Military community and their families."

Colorado Springs is home to Fort Carson Army Base, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, and the Air Force Academy.
