Amber Alert Deactivated For 17-Year-Old In Denver Area

SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4) - An Amber Alert for a 17-year-old girl in Sheridan has been deactivated. Authorities said at around 6:30 p.m., Samantha Herrera has been "contacted" and the man accused of abducting her is in custody.

The suspect, Rodney Brown, was known to be violent.

Sheridan police say Herrera was last seen in the area of PetSmart near Hampden Avenue and Santa Fe Drive in Sheridan at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials with Denver police said they responded to that area where there were two young females reportedly screaming for someone to call 911. Officers say Herrera, one of the women, was struggling to get out of the car that Brown, her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend, was driving. Police say she could not get out and he drove off with her in the vehicle.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities found the white 2000 Honda Accord they were believed to be traveling in. At that time, they had not found the pair.

Police believe there could be another vehicle associated with the Amber Alert, a blue 2017 Nissan Altima with CO license plate UOF-493.

A court order shows Brown is not supposed to contact Herrera.

Police say the other woman who was involved in the situation was able to get away safely.
