Officer-Involved Shooting In Longmont Leaves 1 Dead

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Longmont are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead. The officer was not hurt.

The shooting happened on Pratt Street near 23rd Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Monday after receiving a call that a man tried to shoot himself with a revolver and that he was on meth and heroin. Officers responded to the area and contacted the suspect who was in a vehicle. He told officers that he was armed and would kill the officers.

During the standoff, police say the suspect, identified as Jesus Ramos, got out of the vehicle and ran towards the apartment complex with his hand wrapped in a jacket. That's when an officer fired a shot. Investigators say Ramos, 34, ran to Building B and broke into a ground level apartment through a living room window. Both residents confronted him and left the apartment.

Ramos was found inside the apartment by a SWAT robot about 6:48 a.m. He was pronounced deceased. It is unclear whether Ramos turned the gun on himself or if he died as a result of the officer firing.

Ramos has a significant criminal history.
