Broncos Backup Quarterback Chad Kelly Arrested
DENVER (CBS4) -- Chad Kelly, a backup quarterback for the Denver Broncos, was arrested early Tuesday morning. Kelly, 24, was jailed on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass, according to a statement released by the Englewood Police Department. The charge is a class 5 felony.
The press release states that police were called to an address in the 3200 block of South Lincoln Street at about 1:15 a.m. on a report of a man standing outside the home. While officers were on the way, they were told the man had entered the home.
According to the arrest affidavit, a woman named Nancy Lozano was sitting on a couch near the front door, holding her young child, when the man entered the house. She told police he sat down next to her and was "mumbling incoherently."
Lozano called to a man in the house, identified as Marco Torres, who confronted the man and hit him in the upper back with a vacuum tube.
Torres chased the man out of the house and officers started searching the area.
Torres showed police security camera video from the front door showing a white man wearing dark pants, a white long sleeve shirt with a brown vest and a red scarf around his neck. Police said the man's clothes were disheveled and he had a tattoo on his chest.
A little while later, officers found a man matching the description of the intruder sitting in a black SUV near the Gothic Theater. Torres was transported to the Gothic and said he was "100 percent sure" Kelly was the man who had entered the home.
Kelly was taken into custody without a struggle, according to police.
Kelly transported to the Arapahoe County Jail. He appeared in court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and was represented by a public defender. He posted a $2,500 bond and was released. He has an advisement hearing on Wednesday.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office says no alcohol breathalyzer test may have been performed because, "This is not an alcohol-based offense." Court documents automatically default to show a BAC of 0.00 if no test is performed.
According to TMZ, Broncos linebacker Von Miller hosted a Halloween party for his teammates Monday night.
Broncos cornerback Chris Harris tweeted that it was not a cocaine-themed party.
Many pictures and videos posted on social media show people at the party dressed as cowboys.
Emmanuel Sanders defended his choice to dress up as a character played by Dave Chappelle known as Tyrone Biggums.
The Broncos released the following statement:
"We are disappointed that Chad Kelly was arrested early this morning. Our organization has been in contact with Chad and we are in the process of gathering more information."
Broncos General Manager John Elway addressed the situation on the Orange & Blue 760 radio show on AM 760 Tuesday morning.
"We're very, very disappointed in Chad and the situation he put himself into... When the team has a get-together, that's always a good thing... One person put a dent in it... We take it very seriously and will make decisions as we go," Elway said.
Should Kelly be disciplined and miss Sunday's game in Kansas City, Kevin Hogan would serve as the backup quarterback.
This is not the first time Kelly has been in trouble with the law. In 2015, he was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a non-criminal charge of disorderly conduct, according to CBS Sports.

The Broncos chose Kelly as the 253 pick in the 7th round of the 2017 draft.
Kelly missed his rookie season while recovering from knee and wrist injuries.
An autograph event with Kelly that was scheduled for Tuesday at Flatiron Crossing has been cancelled.
