Off-Duty Officer Confronts, Shoots, Kills Burglary Suspect

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)– A homeowner shot and killed a burglary suspect who he caught inside his home in Littleton on Friday night.

Police told CBS4 that the homeowner was sleeping in his basement when he heard someone upstairs. He confronted the suspect and then shot him.

The suspect was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

The homeowner is an off-duty Denver police officer. He has not been identified.

That homeowner met with investigators for questioning. Part of the investigation will also determine if the Make My Day law applies.

It is unclear whether the suspect and homeowner knew each other.
