Colorado Electors Make Final Appeal To Be Free Agents
DENVER (AP) — Two Colorado electors are asking the state supreme court to let them vote for someone other than Hillary Clinton on Monday.
The electors on Wednesday appealed a lower court ruling that allows the state to remove them if they vote for someone other than Colorado's popular vote winner. State law requires Colorado's nine electors to support the presidential ticket that won the most votes. A handful of electors want to change that. They hope to cut a deal with Republicans in other states and unite behind a consensus pick other than Donald Trump.
Colorado's electors can't do that under current law. The Supreme Court has until Monday at noon to decide. That's when electors must cast their ballots.
