"It's important for us to be out here collecting toys for the Boys and Girls Clubs because they serve 2,000 kids every day after school, and it not only provides a fun safe place for them to go, but it helps the families that are struggling to make ends meet," said Taylor Powell, one of the captains of the DU squad.

The special collection caps a month of collecting toys at every home hockey, volleyball, and basketball game the school has played. Over the course of its campaign, the squad had collected hundreds of toys for Care 4 Colorado.

"It feels really good just to know that we're helping out these families, and we're going to put a smile on these kids' faces at Christmas," Powell added.

The cheer squad will bring their collected toys to the big CBS4 toy collection happening on Thursday, Dec. 15 at the King Soopers at Colorado and Yale. Staff members from CBS4, KOA , KBCO, and the Boys and Girls Club will be on hand from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. collecting toys before the holidays.
