BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)– Teammates and fans took time out on Wednesday to remember University of Colorado football star Rashaan Salaam.
CU opened its Football Legacy Hall in the Champion Center on the CU Boulder campus on Wednesday and invited the public to pay their respects to Salaam.
He set a school record for rushing yards and won the Heisman Trophy in 1994 before he went pro with the NFL by playing for the Chicago Bears.
Visitors were asked to share a memory of Salaam.
“The Buffaloes were doing very well and they went to the bowl and they had that great team. And we were so excited when the Bears drafted Rashaan and we wanted to come out here and pay our respects,” said CU Buffs fan Arturo Torres.
Salaam was found dead in a park in Boulder Monday night. Police confirm a gun and note were found next to his body.
