Officers To Conduct 'Move Over' Education On I-25
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4) - On a stretch of I-25 on Thursday, police officers from five different departments will be stopping motorists.
For drivers who don't move over, it's a reminder of the "Move Over" law when they see law enforcement on the side of the road.
This comes after a state trooper was hit and killed Friday when a driver did not heed the road rules.
The move over law has been around since 2005, but officials say that too many don't know it or don't follow it, resulting in needless crashes.
CSP Trooper Cody Donahue was on the shoulder of the road with his lights flashing, investigating a crash, when he was struck by a truck driver who drifted over the fog line.
He was killed instantly.
That truck driver was in violation of the move over law, which requires drivers move to the farthest left lane when passing a stopped emergency vehicle or tow truck.

If an emergency vehicle is approaching, the law requires drivers to pull over to the right and stop.
The Greenwood Village, Denver, and Lone Tree police departments will participate in the education stops Thursday along with both Arapahoe and Douglas County Sheriff's Departments.
While the stops along the southern I-25 corridor are for educational purposes, officials say they could also hand out citations.
Funeral services for Trooper Cody Donahue will take place Friday afternoon.
