Glenwood Hot Springs To Purchase Historic Hotel Colorado

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - One of Colorado's most historic hotels is being sold.

The owners of Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs have agreed to sell the property to the owners of the neighboring Glenwood Hot Springs, according to a news release.

The sale is pending is expected to be completed early next year.

Over the course of the history of the two properties -- the hot springs and the hotel -- have had the same owner two different times. They have had separate owners for the past 70 years.

"We fully intend to preserve the character and integrity of the property," said Glenwood Hot Springs CEO Kjell Mitchell in a statement, which also revealed that renovations and upgrades are in the works for the hotel.

The current owners of the hotel sent out an email on Wednesday stating the following:

"After nearly three decades of operating the Historic Hotel Colorado, ownership has decided to sell the property. The Hotel Colorado is scheduled to be sold on January 31, 2017, and the property will close its doors for a comprehensive renovation, on the same date. It is anticipated that the property will be closed for an extended period of time."

Hotel Colorado, located at the intersection of Pine Street and East 6th Street, has been in operation since 1893 and was a favorite spot of President Theodore Roosevelt.
