Investigators so far haven't determined the cause of the wildfire, which threatened homes for a short time Monday evening and could be seen for miles around.

A total of 4,300 evacuation notifications that were sent out were lifted on Monday night. One resident whose home is near the burn area told CBS4 she saw flames "all over."

Strong winds caused the fire to flare up on Monday. Wind speeds were also strong Tuesday morning as fire crews were monitoring the perimeter of the fire for possible hotspots.

While the fire was blazing police blocked intersections as people evacuated. A CBS4 crew witnessed a man hosing off the roof of his neighbor's house.

Mike Swanson got an emergency notification call and was out of his house within 10 minutes. He took whatever possessions he could grab.

"I took important papers, some photos, some of my wife's personal documents she wanted to keep hold of, our cat, of course, clothes for just in case we can't come back tonight -- just what we need to get out," he told CBS4.

Don Robinson said his son, who lives near the fire, is on vacation in Florida. He went to his house to get his pets and anything else vital. He said he was worried this could become the next Colorado tragedy.

"You smell the smoke, you see the fire on the different news channels and whatnot, and you see the winds coming up so you think about Colorado Springs a little bit and what happened several years ago," he said.
