Reference To Slavery Will Remain In Colorado Constitution
DENVER (CBS4)- A reference to slavery will remain in Colorado's constitution.
Voters have said "no" to a ballot measure, Amendment T, that would have removed the language.
The final ballots were tallied on Tuesday and the Secretary of State said the margin is not close enough to require a recount.
The constitution prohibits slavery or involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime — wording that proponents of the amendment claim was outdated.
Those against the amendment argued it could cause legal uncertainty involving Colorado's prison work programs.
