Denver Dumb Friends League Receives 79 Dogs Ready for Adoption

Denver (CBS4) -- The Denver Dumb Friends League has nearly 80 new dogs ready for new homes.

The organization took 79 dogs from an overburdened shelter in Texas.

Teams will take turns going to Texas to complete the transfers.

"We are fortunate that we have the resources and the space to help pets from outside of our own community when the need arises," Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League, said in a press release.

The age of the dogs ranges from puppies to adults, and includes many different breeds and sizes. Each dog will get vaccinations, any necessary treatment, and a microchip. They'll be up for adoption as soon as possible.

"There are so many dogs of every size and breed just huddled in kennels down there. They are lonely and begging for attention, and most are housed outdoors in the elements. All of them need a home," Duane Adams, Vice President of Operations, says.

The transfer was made possible by a generous grant from PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of animal welfare in North America.
