Tradition Continues: Taxi Drivers Help Families In Need This Thanksgiving

DENVER (CBS4) - It's a decades long tradition -- taxi drivers bringing Thanksgiving meals to families in need. CBS4's Kelly Werthmann tagged along for the special deliveries Saturday morning.

Happiness was infectious outside the Epworth United Methodist Church as several volunteers began their day with a smile.

"Keep everybody fed and happy," volunteer Irvan McCullough said.

As part of a holiday tradition with the Epworth Foundation and Metro Taxi, several hundred boxes were packed, moved, and loaded for very special deliveries.

More than 1,200 Thanksgiving dinner packages complete with everything from the turkey to stuffing were delivered to homes across Denver. It's a holiday meal many families wouldn't otherwise enjoy.

"Many of them wouldn't have the kind of Thanksgiving they're going to have if Epworth Foundation wasn't doing what it's doing," said King Harris, Executive Director of the Epworth Foundation.

"Oh, I'm just so happy I got a box and I can still enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas," said a recipient.

Walmart helped supply the food in the Thanksgiving packages. Some were delivered as a surprise to the families in need.
