This week Home Depot and Volunteers of America are finishing the job so his wife Maria can stop relying on a microwave to cook her meals.

On Thursday volunteers installed 10 cabinents, countertops, a new sink, an oven and a refrigerator.

“She’s just so happy,” said Home Depot employee Valarie Moroney, referring to Maria. “We’ve been going at this since about January and getting all the details together for her. And we were able to surprise her. There have been tears of joy and she’s just incredibly happy.”

Bud Butler served in the Army.
