Thousands Protest President-Elect Trump

DENVER (CBS4)- Thousands gathered at the state Capitol on Thursday evening to protest President-Elect Donald Trump. That demonstration took thousands through the streets of downtown Denver and eventually onto Interstate 25.

They gathered on the steps of the state Capitol carrying signs that read, "Not My President" and "Racist-Sexist NOT My President" about 5 p.m. Thursday.

Once everyone had gathered, the demonstration was on the move with protesters making their way down the 16th Street Mall.

Copter4 followed the crowd as they carried on what seemed to be a peaceful protest.

After the 16th Street Mall demonstration, the protesters once again gathered at the state Capitol steps. There were hundreds chanting and holding signs at 8 p.m.

About 3,000 people RSVP'd to the protest on Facebook but there were more who actually showed up to demonstrate.

Shortly after the second gathering at the state Capitol the demonstrators started marching again through the streets of downtown.

Then they made their way to the Auraria Campus where officers blocked them from blocking traffic.

Copter4 flew over the scene were hundreds of protesters continued to carry signs and stand in the street.

The protesters walked around officers in riot gear and walked onto I-25 about 10 p.m. They were seen jumping down from a retaining wall along the interstate.

Police blocked most lanes of I-25 for several minutes but the southbound lanes of I-25 were reopened by 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Police did not make any arrests as of 10:20 p.m.
