Gov. Hickenlooper Denounces Election Rigging In Colorado

DENVER (CBS4)- Gov. John Hickenlooper denounced allegations from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump that the election is rigged.

Trump campaigned in Colorado over the weekend and claimed that mail carriers would destroy ballots, picking and choosing which ones to deliver to the election headquarters.

"I have real problems with ballots being sent," said Trump at a rally on Saturday.

Hickenlooper responded to the allegations on Monday.

"He is saying that letter carriers are going to destroy ballots... what do they have, X-ray eyes?" asked Hickenlooper.

He said the attacks are an insult tot he integrity of Colorado's election system.

"He's trying to make people think their votes won't be counted so they won't vote," said Hickenlooper.

More than one million voters in Colorado had mailed their ballots or participated in early voting by Nov. 1.

For those who plan to mail in a ballot, election officials offer reminders to have it in the mail by Nov. 1. Any ballot received after Election Day won't count.

According to state law, a postmark doesn't count. The ballot must be received by the County Clerk on or before 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 to be counted.

Voters can cast ballots early and drop it off in person on Oct. 24 or drop it off at any 24-hour drop box starting Oct. 17 through Election Day Nov. 8.

Military members and overseas citizens have the opportunity to have their ballot counted, as long as it's received up to eight days after Election Day.
