Powerful Guns Stolen During Smash & Grab From Shop In Just Seconds

By Kelly Werthmann

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - Parker police are investigating an overnight gun store burglary where four long guns were taken in just seconds.

The theft happened just after midnight Saturday at the Pony Firearms Express of South Parker Road. Officers got to the scene five minutes after dispatch was alerted by the security system, according to Cmdr. Chris Peters.

"They found the front window broken in and it appeared to them that some firearms were missing," Peters told CBS4. "After confirming with the store owner, there were two AK-47s taken, an AR-15 taken, as well as a shotgun."

Mark Wells is a friend of the store owner. He came to the shop as soon as he learned what happened. When he arrived to the scene around 3 a.m. he noticed glass scattered all around. Wells told CBS4 two rocks were used to smash the front windows.

"He's not happy," Wells said of the owner of Pony Express Firearms. "He's pretty upset that this has happened."

The store does have security cameras, but the thief or possible thieves cannot be seen in the video. Apparently the burglars did not have to step inside the store to take the four weapons.

"The guns were obviously stored super close to the front window," Peters said. "Close enough you could reach your arm in past the bars, grab four guns and take off."

Peters said detectives are checking if other nearby businesses have surveillance cameras that may have captured the suspect or suspects. Wells is hoping whoever took the guns does not commit another crime.

"I certainly hope these guns aren't put to use against people," he said.

The ATF may be assisting Parker police with their investigation. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Parker Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
