Driver Pleads Guilty In Deadly Motorcycle Crashes
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The driver of a vehicle that crashed into two motorcycles, killing two people and injuring another, has pleaded guilty for her role in the crash.
Athina Munoz pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of vehicular homicide- DUI. In exchange for her plea, four other counts against her were dismissed.
The crash happened about a mile and a half south of Franktown on Colorado Highway 83 about 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.
Troopers said a 1997 green Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Colorado 83 when it crossed over the painted median into the northbound lanes, striking a 2014 maroon Harley Davidson driven by Brian Lehner of Parker and a 2016 gray Harley Davidson driven by Josephn Bartoletti of Colorado Springs.
Both Lehner, 58, and his passenger, Jacquie Lehner, 56, were ejected from their motorcycle and died at the scene. Bartoletti, 28, received minor injuries. Neither the Lehners nor Bartoletti were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Munoz, 28, of Parker received serious injuries in the crash.
There was no agreed-upon sentence with Munoz's plea. The judge will decide during the sentencing hearing scheduled for Jan. 20 2017.
