Hickenlooper: 'We've Got To Have Faith The People's Vote Counts'
DENVER (CBS4) - Gov. John Hickenlooper wasted no time in casting his ballot this week. Colorado's governor dropped it off Thursday morning at a Denver ballot dropoff location.
Hickenlooper said he was excited to vote for what he says will be the first woman president in the history of the country -- his party's nominee Hillary Clinton.
Hickenlooper also spoke about Donald Trump's assertions that the election could be rigged, a topic which came up in the final presidential debate on Wednesday night.
"We've got to have faith that the people's vote counts. And I think we do that in Colorado," he said. "I think (with) this system -- we're one of the first states where we're mailing out a ballot to everybody -- everyone has a chance to vote.
"I'm hopeful that we're going to see some of the highest turnout we've ever seen in this election on both sides."
After months and months of headlines showing negative politics in this presidential election, Hickenlooper said it has been destructive to the democratic process. He said he fears the negativity will turn people, particularly young people, away from interest in elections.
Hickenlooper is encouraging citizens to fill out their ballots and get them in the mail or drop them off at a ballot drop-off location as soon as possible.
