Iraq Veteran Surprised With New Radio, Recliner

DENVER (CBS4) - An organization that helps the less fortunate and homeless with clothing, food, books and other basic needs helped out an Iraq war veteran after he lost one of his favorite possessions.

The organization Humane Kind Project had their weekly Block Party event on Saturday which brings people together in need. The event also features coffee, donuts, music, games and an environment where people can connect.

At last week's event, Joe, a retired veteran of the first Iraq war who is disabled and struggling to get by on his veteran's benefits, was lamenting the fact that his favorite possession, a portable radio, was dropped and run over. He was also talking about how much his back hurt him.

Over the next week, the organization collected donations of a new radio and flashlight for Joe. Humane Kind also collected a recliner and new table and chair set for his apartment.

The furniture was delivered on Saturday along with his new radio. Joe was very happy to finally have the comfort of home again and hopes his back feels better soon.
