Family Frustrated After Messy Backyard Utility Work Remains Unfinished For Months

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - An Aurora family who has been trying to get someone to fix an unfinished utility project on their property for months may finally be getting some relief.

Firas Sabbagh and his family have a big mess in their backyard. They told CBS4 a crew came to work on a utility box that has a CenturyLink sticker on it, but they didn't come back the next day as they said they would. That was two months ago.

Until Thursday, Sabbagh said he couldn't get anyone to claim that the project was their's to finish.

"We tried to go and call them and have someone fix it and repair it because it's just a big hole in the ground and they said nobody from CenturyLink came to this backyard to do that installment," Sabbagh said.

Sabbagh said they have made 20 phone calls to the company in their efforts to have someone come and complete the job.

"They said that nobody that was employed by them came here and did the installment of the tower," he said.

The family is worried that exposed underground wires are a safety issue, especially with children playing in the backyard.

"(This shows me) that CenturyLink, the company, either A) Can't keep track of their own employees or B) Somehow is letting their equipment fall into non-employees hands and they're doing something with it," Sabbagh said.

CenturyLink officials shared a statement with CBS4 on Wednesday saying they have been denied access and haven't been able to fix the problem as as result. They said they will complete the work soon.
