Burglar Hits Up High-End Shopping Area, Leaves With Almost Nothing

DENVER (CBS4) - A burglar hit a high-end Denver shopping area but didn't get away with much. Store owners say the damage costs them more than the theft itself.

The burglar broke through a glass window, but when he did that it set of security alarm so police were there quickly. He was caught on camera but police are still struggling to find a good description of the thief.

Denver police say between Sept. 22-23 the masked bandit smashed his way into at least four Cherry Creek businesses. The suspect broke through windows at the Yoga Pod on 6th and Detroit, a salon on 3rd and Josephine, two businesses in a development on 2nd and University, a pet food store, and a consignment shop.

"It's frightening to see. It doesn't feel good to have someone walking around the space," said Selene Locke, manager of Rags Consignment.

The owners of Rags Consignment still have to rely on a replacement door. The damage to get in cost more than the thief stole.

In every case the bandit stole a small amount of cash. Employees at the salon say the burglar only got away with $19.

"Unfortunately it does seem like something that is happening more often than we would like," Locke said.

All but one of the stores have video and pictures of the masked bandit, but did not want to release it to CBS4. The businesses say they just hope it doesn't happen again.

The businesses are hoping the bandit will be caught, although it's unclear if there is anything that would distinguish the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
