National Voter Registration Day Designed To Increase Participation

DENVER (CBS4) - National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday. There are events across Colorado and nationwide to get all eligible people registered so they can participate in the election.

Election day is Nov. 8. The idea behind National Voter Registration Day is to increase voter participation.

According to Secretary of State's office, in 2008, six million Americans didn't vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn't know how to register.

This year, officials want to make sure no one is left out.

Those who register online or by mail before Oct. 31 will receive a mail ballot. Those ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Those who register by mail or online after Oct. 31 must pick up a ballot in person.

There is still time to register to vote on Election Day, Nov. 8. Voters must register in person and cast a ballot in person.

There are several voter registration events across Colorado on Tuesday including an event in Civic Center Park at 11 a.m. and one at Union Station at 7 p.m.
