BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The Boulder County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a man who was shot by a deputy over the weekend.
Investigators say 37-year-old Adrian Shaffer, of Boulder, was agitated and trying to "pick fights" with passing motorists on U.S. Highway 287 south of Longmont on Saturday evening. When the deputy arrived, Shaffer is accused of pulling a handgun and opening fire.
He was critically injured when the deputy returned fire.
Shaffer, who has an extensive criminal history, remains hospitalized and is under investigation for attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer.
