By Jeff Todd

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police are still looking for a man who walked into a popular bar and restaurant and stabbed a customer Tuesday afternoon.

"It was just a terrible random act of violence from what we can tell," said Paul Burke, the owner of Mead Street Station in the Highlands neighborhood.

The incident happened in the busy Lowell Square area near 32nd Avenue and Lowell Boulevard.

"A gentleman walked into the bar and stabbed, cut another one of the patron's throats that was at the bar," Burke said.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. A passerby on the sidewalk told CBS4 he saw the suspect seconds before the attack and knew the man looked different.

"We heard the fire trucks and saw cop cars and then we saw a couple dozen police coming down the street," said Kristen Tosacano, the owner of the nearby Bull Locks barber shop. "No one came in and told us to stay put."

Around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Denver police post a tweeted about the suspect.

"He'd been seen around the neighborhood and a couple of my bartenders have seen him before. We don't know much about him," said Burke.

Other bar managers told CBS4 they believe they'd seen the suspect before as well and was known for being rude and strange.

The victim is expected to recover.

"They told me that there's no arteries hit, so that's the best news they could give me. He was pretty badly injured from my staff's accounts," Burke said. "We just know the victim very well and our thoughts and prayers are with the family."
