MMA Fighter, Wife To Donate Baby's Organs After Deadly Hit-And-Run

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (CBS4) - Following a deadly hit-and-run accident in the Los Angeles area, an MMA fighter and his wife have decided to donate their baby son's organs.

Liam Mikael Kowal, age 15 months, was hit and killed in his stroller while he was being pushed by his aunt Saturday afternoon, according to CBS Los Angeles, in a crosswalk.

On Sunday, Liam was declared brain dead.

"He tried to fight so hard," his father Marcus posted on Facebook. "He even died at one point but they brought him back. He's a little fighter. His heart is still beating but his brain is no longer working."

This isn't easy to write but Liam is going to donate his organs, so that his little heart can make another child live...

So other parents won't have to suffer like they do, Kowal and his wife made the difficult decision to donate their child's organs, and they're asking if anyone needs help.

"This isn't easy to write but Liam is going to donate his organs, so that his little heart can make another child live and another set of parents not have to go through what we have to. We were told that we can donate to someone we know."

If anyone knows a child who needs help, Kowal encourages them to message him on Facebook.

The suspected driver, identified as Donna Marie Higgins, 72, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and felony drunk driving.

Higgins was released from jail on $100,000 bail.
